What it means to give a hand up

We agree it is essential for people to have their basic needs met: food, water, shelter, hygiene, etc. But if that is all we do for someone, we risk robbing them of their dignity and creating greater dependency instead of greater self-reliance in those we help. At Enoch Initiative, when we speak of giving “a hand up” we mean helping someone take the next step in their life in a way that sustainably meets their base needs today and enables them to do so for themselves every day for the rest of their lives. We are passionate about this. It’s not enough for us to give someone a sandwich, we want to help them transform their life circumstances so they can stand and live in the strength of their potential.

Who We Help

Throughout history those who made the biggest difference didn’t spend their time in society. Jesus, Ghandi, Mother Theresa- These great inspirational people spent their lives serving and caring for those who had been outcast, rejected, or forgotten by society. At Enoch Initiative we seek to follow their examples, and we spend our days caring for those members of society on the outskirts who need our help.

Where we're working

Independence, Missouri U.S.A.

In collaboration with Team Jesus and the Unity Center we are actively serving an impoverished population lovingly termed “The Beloved” living in Independence, Missouri.

Alebtong District, Uganda

In collaboration with local representatives and the YODELI organization, we are working to provide job training and skills and employment opportunities to the impoverished members of the population there.
